Q&APast and present musical influences/favorites? My first memories of music are of 80s metal like W.A.S.P, Twisted Sister, Scorpions, Accept etc. That stuff still works for me. In the 90s Megadeth was THE band and got me into other great thrash metal like Annihilator and Kreator. That style of guitar playing is something that comes naturally for me as a player. I also went through a period where Finnish folk music style melodies played by bands like Amorphis and Sentenced infected me. Nowadays the emotional content of music and especially the grooves and feelings within songs are really important to me. Therapy? is probably the strongest band at the moment and Manic Street Preachers also just released a classic album. It seems like music is coming back! I also have to mention ZZ Top here. Their new live DVD blew me away and their albums are full of amazing songs, performances and sounds. And finally a nod to the Schenker brothers who influenced the whole world of music and never really get recognized for it. Rock Bottom pretty much encapsulated the whole idea what a riff should be while Rock You Like a Hurricane later showed that metal could be used to make everlasting hits. My guitar playing has been mostly influenced by Dave Mustaine and Chris Holmes. I'm very fortunate to play guitars that these guys used to play live around the world in their glory days. Other influences include Wolf Hoffman, Michael Schenker, Billy Gibbons, YJM, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Jeff Waters, Jimmy Page, SRV, Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert, Jerry Cantrell, Glenn Tipton, KK Downing... As a songwriter I appreciate originality and attention to detail (ABBA, Queen, Dire Straits...) but I also like more straight-forward outbursts of emotion (Nirvana, The Cure, The Clash...).
